Biography
Dr. Scott Sample is a partner in CM Law’s Dallas office and a registered patent attorney with over 25 years of experience. He represents clients ranging from individual inventors and start-ups to universities and Fortune 500 companies, helping them protect and leverage the intellectual property that drives their competitive advantage.
Scott combines deep scientific training in developmental neurobiology, biochemistry, and biotechnology with extensive legal experience to guide clients through complex IP challenges in the life sciences and related fields. His technical fluency allows him to quickly grasp emerging technologies—from molecular biology to medical devices—and translate that understanding into patent strategies aligned with each client’s commercial objectives.
Scott assists clients across the full spectrum of intellectual property needs, including patent prosecution and counseling, patent portfolio development and management, due diligence investigations, freedom-to-operate analyses, patent validity and infringement opinions, and patent enforcement and licensing.
His representative experience spans a wide range of life sciences technologies, including protein therapeutics, transgenics, small molecule drugs, therapeutic polymers, and medical devices. Whether advising a start-up on its first patent filing or managing a multinational’s global portfolio, Scott brings the same focus on building IP assets that support long-term business strategy.
